Press Release

On Saturday July 28th the Pennington County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a one vehicle roll over near the intersection of Center St E and 300th Ave NE. Deputies identified two adult occupants as Mark Urie and Alexi Jones. Both victims had sustained serious injuries.

Mark Urie was transported to Sanford ER in Thief River Falls and Alexa Jones was life flighted from the scene to Sanford in Fargo. The Motor Vehicle accident is under investigation by the Pennington County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol.

Pennington County was assisted on scene by the Goodridge Fire Department and first responders, the Oklee Ambulance, and the Red Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Minnesotans lose millions to fraudulent lottery and sweepstakes scams each year.

There are many variations of scams. In most cases a potential victim is asked to send money to claim a prize or be entered into a drawing. Official lotteries or sweepstakes do not require you to pay money to receive winnings.

Scams are not limited to the use of your computer; criminals also will use your phone and mailbox to gain your trust and take your money.

Pennington County Sheriff's Department is asking for help from the Community to help make our transition in the new facility run as smooth as possible. As of this publication occupancy is set for early July. In order to help train our staff on new policy and procedures regarding the following: booking, meal pass, med pass, recreation room procedures, and other general day to day activities. There will be 4 time slots available for sign up for in order to be able to train all of our staff in this hands-on manner.

Because this will take place inside a secure facility, an application form must be filled out and a background check will be conducted. Applications are available at the Pennington County Sheriff's Department or online at http://penningtonsheriff.org. Deadline for applications will be June 15th, 2018.

The Hwy 1/Hwy 59 construction project in Thief River Falls includes different levels of work throughout the project to allow city crews to replace utilities in certain areas. Replacement of city utilities is more in depth and requires detours. The other portions of the project will be done under traffic.

The project is expected to last through August. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division are offering a reward of up to $5000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fire that occurred at Carpenter's Corner Bar, Thief River Falls, Minnesota on April 8th, 2018.
