Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 17 - 21, 2017
Sever weather season is approaching, Pennington County will be participating in statewide tornado drills. These drills are scheduled for Thursday, April 20 2017 at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
 
Reminder
In the event of a real tornado threat, there are three designated tornado shelters in the city of Thief River Falls. These are:
1) Ralph Engelstad Arena
2) United Methodist Church
3) Saint Bernard's Church
In the Goodrige area it is the school and in the St Hilaire area it is the Community Center.

Starting Monday April 10, 2017 annual spring burning restrictions are going into effect for Pennington county. They will be in effect until green up. During this period only variance permits may be issued for special circumstances such as prescribed fire projects, approved agricultural practices, or road construction projects. Recreational campfires in a fire ring do not require a burning permit and are not subject to spring burning restrictions.

The City of Theif River Falls announced, today, that due to high volume of water caused by early snow melt the condition of the ice on the Red Lake River upstream from the dam in Thief River Falls is rapidly deterioating.

Yesterday, February 9th, at 11:25 AM, Officer and Deputies from the the Thief River Falls Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant on a rural Thef River Falls residence. This warrant was in conjuntion with an investigation into a series of car thefts and burglaries in and around the Thief River Falls area. Numerous items believed to be stolen in a 3 county area were recovered at the scene, including 2 firearms. Processing evidence, and further investigation remains underway.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The public can now view winter road conditions from the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s new “plow cams” available through the 511mn.org website. MnDOT announced today that some of the agency’s 838 snowplows are equipped with cameras that show real-time road conditions along plow routes.
