Commisioners Get Justice Center Construction Update Tuesday

A multi-million dollar construction project continues in down town Thief River Falls as the Pennington County Justice Center, an expansion of the Law Enforcement Center, continues to make progress, with an update yesterday to the Pennington County Board of Commissioners.

The Board approved five change orders Tuesday, including the addition of vehicle storage area insulation, added insulation to parapet walls and the Soil Engineer recommended, addition of drain tile.

Other changes included addition of a supply duct, addition of emergency smoke curtains to an elevator shaft and an increase in size of planned skylights.

Contrgrity Group Construction Manager Peter Filippi says he anticipates no delays in the coming weeks weather permitting.

Filippi says crews are in the process of doing masonry work on the East side of the building, a sound system for the future Court House is currently out for pricing and window installation at the site is scheduled for December.

County Commissioners have scheduled a second tour of construction progress at the Justice Center on November 28th.

Justice Center to Offer More - Thief River Falls Times- 10/20/17

  After worship services, a local minister repeatedly saw a vehicle driving past his country church. He eventually spoke to the driver, learning that the man was among the Sentence to Serve crew members who had recently painted the church. Full of pride, he was pointing out his work to his girlfriend.
    STS is one of many programs offered by the Pennington County Jail. “It’s a good way to reintegrate those people who have been confined for a while,” said Sheriff Ray Kuznia.
    STS crews have raked leaves for elderly individuals and constructed handicapped-accessible ramps, among other projects.
    Another jail program is an art class taught by retired art teacher Pat Dunning. “In previous art sessions, I have brought flowers, herbs, toys, or whatever, for them to draw and paint,” said Dunning. “You would think that they would have turned their noses up at the toys, but some of the cards are going to their small children who mostly they are estranged from and yet who they love dearly and miss terribly.”
