Pennington County to begin assessments

The Pennington County Assessor’s Office will begin its 2021 payable 2022 assessment.

Minnesota Statute 273.08 requires that all properties must be viewed by a licensed assessor every five years at a maximum. Assessors may also visit properties in search of new construction, to see if any buildings were removed, or if other changes to buildings have been made.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pennington County Assessor’s Office staff won’t attempt any interior inspections. The Assessor’s staff will perform exterior inspections of properties, mostly from public roads and alleys. If buildings can’t be mostly viewed from a public road or alley, the Assessor’s staff may enter private property, but will be staying as far away from buildings as possible. The Assessor’s staff won’t be knocking on doors or ringing doorbells of residences or entering commercial property buildings. Property owners are welcome to approach staff and ask any questions.

If there is new construction and the building is already occupied by the property owner, we will attempt to contact the owner to make an appointment to measure the exterior of the new construction and/or get information on the interior.

Contact the Pennington County Assessor’s Office at 218-683-7029 with any questions you have.
